Hospital tour Q

When I was pregnant with my 6yo (who's birthday is today :-) ), I didn't tour the hospital until I was around 6-7 months. Everyone else in the tour group was about as far.

I'm delivering at a different hospital this time. Their Women's center is brand new but it's a Northside Hospital branch, which is the top hospital in Georgia for delivering babies, so I trust them. I want to tour it now, though!

Would I be nuts to go on a tour now? I've heard so many great things about it! I feel so lucky to have so many great hospital options in the metro area.

When I toured the hospital there were two couples who were "shopping" for hospitals.  They were comparing the ones in the area and were only a few months along....

I say go for it...take the tour.  You've had one baby so you probably know the questions to ask and what is most important to you this time around.

It's awesome you have so many options to choose from!

Take Care,

Cindy

Here is the way I see it--- if you want to see the hospital because it will have an impact on your care (i.e. which Dr you continue to work with, or because your Dr works with 2- which sounds more like what you are saying) then I say go.  However, if it is just a case of you want to see the area because you are definitely using the facility then I would wait it out a little.  I think I saw the hospital when I was about 34 weeks or so- but I was using that hospital (the only one my Dr uses)...so for me, it was part of being comfortable knowing the space, and seeing where I would be soon.  It helped, I clearly remembered the space when I got there, and knew my surrounds (mostly).

Yes you would be nuts to tour the hospital this early out.  My hospital will not even let you schedule a tour until you hit 34 weeks.

I think it's fine.  My hospital lets you tour at 6 weeks if you want to.

I don' tknow if mine put limits on it or not.  I waited though until I was 26 weeks to tour the hospital with this one.  I was at a different hospital the last 2 times and toured it once with my son at around 35 weeks or so.

I wouldn't go at 10 weeks myself.

I was limited (1) by where my insurance allowed me to deliver and (2) where my then OB could deliver, so I didn't have a lot of choices. If you have them, I say look them all over now! Who knows what might happen with your pregnancy? You could be on bedrest later on or (God Forbid) go into early labor. I've heard that having babies is a big business for hospitals, and they compete with each other. So, give them something to compete for. It's all a part of the fun of pregnancy, and especially considering all of the not so fun parts, you should enjoy what you can. If it helps alleviate worry or anxiety, I say go for it.
